The hackers at Chronic Dev have updated Greenpois0n to version 1.0 RC 5.4, a new release of their ‘untethered’ jailbreak tool for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad that now supports the Verizon CDMA iPhone 4 under iOS 4.2.6.

Although GSM iPhones currently have iOS 4.2.1 as the latest version of their firmware, CDMA handsets sure to strain Verizon’s network quite a bit are known to run an updated iOS 4.2.6, which enables a few gimmicks, like the Personal Hotspot function.

Now that folks are starting to receive their pre-ordered Verizon iPhones, Chronic Dev has come to the rescue for those who wish to have their handset jailbroken.

Following the recent launch of Greenpois0n 10. RC5 for Mac and Windows, which provided the first reliable ‘untethered’ jailbreak for devices running iOS 4.2.1, the hackers now offer Greenpois0n 1.0 RC 5.4 as a free download for Mac and Windows users looking to jailbreak their Verizon iPhone.

Linux operating systems are still not supported by Greenpois0n 1.0 RC5 as of yet.

The readme accompanying the hack tool states (emphasis ours):

*** greenpois0n 1.0 RC5.4 ***

> Description of the software:

greenpois0n will Jailbreak your iDevice.

> Supported iDevices:

- iPod Touch 2G (all bootroms)   - iPod Touch 3G   - iPod Touch 4G   - iPad 1G   - iPhone 3Gs (all bootroms)   - iPhone 4   - iPhone 4 Verizon

> Changelog:

- RC5.4: Verizon iPhone 4 is now supported!

The iPhone Dev Team, arguably the most notorious group in the jailbreak business, plans to update its own jailbreak tools to support the untethered jailbreak of the latest iOS firmwares.

iOS 4.3, the next major update to Apple’s mobile operating system, is expected to drop soon likely packing circumventing measures for the latest jailbreaks.

This article has a purely informational purpose and doesn't, in any way, suggest that you should hack your Apple device.

Using hacks may render your device unusable, or may reduce the quality of your experience employing the respective device.

If you choose to download and install jailbreak tools, you will do so at your own risk. Unlocking / jailbreaking your iPhone / iPod touch / iPad / Apple TV may violate your warranty or the EULA with Apple and / or your cellular-service provider.
