The iOS 4.1 update has finally arrived for iPhone and iPod touch owners worldwide, delivering Game Center, high dynamic range (HDR) photos on iPhone 4, support for TV show rentals on iTunes, the ability to upload HD videos to YouTube and MobileMe, additional support for AVRCP-supported accessories, FaceTime calling from Favorites, fixes for iPhone 3G performance and the iPhone 4 proximity sensor, bluetooth improvements, and more.

As expected, Apple has rolled out the highly-anticipated iOS 4.1 software update for iPhone and iPod touch, although the company's web site is yet to reflect the changes.

For once, the Apple.com Downloads section lists availability of iOS 4.1, but the release notes offered up by Apple are those published for the iOS 4.0.2 update (for now).

Secondly. the section dedicated to the iPhone shows the same “coming soon sign”, although the iOS 4.1 IPSW file is now up for grabs, suggesting that the hype surrounding this software update has put quite some pressure on the Cupertino giant.

Game Center - Send and receive friends requests - Invite friends to multi-player games over the Internet - Play multi-player games by auto-matching with other players - View Leaderboards and Achievements - Discover new games from friends

- High dynamic range (HDR) photos on iPhone 4 - Support for TV show rentals on iTunes - Ability to upload HD videos to YouTube and MobileMe over Wi-Fi on iPhone 4 - Additional support for AVRCP-supported accessories, including next & previous track control - FaceTime calling directly from Favorites

Bug fixes, including: - iPhone 4 proximity sensor performance - iPhone 3G performance - Nike+iPod fixes - Bluetooth improvements

Products compatible with the iOS 4.1 software update are iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, and iPod touch 2nd generation or later.

According to Apple, Game Center requires iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPod touch 2nd generation or later.

The iOS 4.1 update is offered up for download after connecting the iPhone / iPod touch to a computer running iTunes.
