Carlos la Borde announced yesterday, April 26th, the release of iMagic OS 2009.5, his commercial, Kubuntu-based Linux distribution. This version comes with a host of new features, like a first run wizard, MP3 decoding, better integration with magicOnline 2, improved Microsoft compatibility, Google Desktop, magicGuides and more.

magicOnline 2, the tool that allows users to install applications with a single click, received a new interface, a search engine and a dock to ease navigation through all the available software (free or commercial) as well as music, templates or wallpapers.

magicEssentials, a suite of applications designed by the iMagic OS team, was updated and is included in the default iMagic OS installation. magicEssentials consists of 6 programs with various purposes: magicWriter - word processor, magicChart - chart and graph design, magicShow - presentation creator, magicSongs - MP3 player, magicScan - antivirus program, and finally magicPhoto - image viewer.

magicGuides, another new addition to iMagic OS 2009.5, was created to help beginners with their first steps, by guiding them through a configuration wizard. From enabling Thunderbird to access email accounts, managing audio collections with magicSongs or Amarok, to web design with Kompozer and photo management with magicPhoto or Picasa, magicGuides aims to ease these processes.
