Apple may introduce new iMacs alongside the rumored new line of MacBook Pro computers, sources close to industry publication DigiTimes have said. An Apple event is even more likely now, should these claims prove accurate.

Citing supply chain sources, DigiTimes outlines that Apple could well launch new iMac desktop computers alongside a new family of MacBook Pros.

The sources allegedly said that, “In addition to notebooks […] Apple may also launch its new iMac along with its MacBook, and the company may also make some changes over the screen size to allow panel cutting to reach its optimization.”

It is unclear what type of “changes” these screens would undergo, though it is fairly possible that Apple is giving the iMac a makeover.

The iMac has changed little from a design standpoint in the past years.

The materials are the same, the shape and size has only slightly been altered, while only the inner-workings have been carefully upgraded to keep up with the times.

Not that the iMac's design isn’t already ahead of its time, but Apple will be the first to get bored of it, not the customer.

Apple is also expected to launch a new range of MacBook Pro systems, and the iPad 2, soon.

Now that new iMacs have been thrown into the mix, we can well expect our predictions for an Apple event this month to materialize.

The next generation of Macintosh computers, be they notebooks or desktop machines, are widely expected to employ Intel’s Sandy Bridge processor architecture, and Light Peak technology.

On the portable front, there is indication that Apple may equip notebooks with both solid-state drives (SSD), and hard-disk drives (HDD), not in separate configurations, but on the same chasis.

As such, SSD would hold the MacBook Pro’s OS enabling faster boot and overall loading times, while the internal HDD would serve for storing the user’s personal files.
