The professional audio division of TEAC Corporation, Tascam has introduced a pocket sized iM2 stereo microphone that goes perfectly with all Apple iDevices for high-quality stereo recording.

The $79 hardware + software solution uses a pair of condenser microphones that boast the same quality levels of Tascam’s hot-selling DR-series recorders, the company said.

It easily plugs in to the 30-pin dock connector on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch and can be adjusted over 180 degrees for optimal sound placement.

The iM2 features its own microphone preamp and analog-to-digital converter. This helps it reduce noise, as well as to handle up to 125dB SPL sounds. You can use it at loud concerts and instrument recording, according to Tascam.

What else is in there, you ask? Well, it’s also got a stereo limiter that dampens or "tames" sudden loud sounds.

The iM2 also has a knob on the side where you can make adjustments. An iOS app soon to be approved in the iTunes App Store will further enhance its functionality, according to the makers.

Perhaps hackers will put this baby to work in porting Siri to old-generation devices, eh?

Other key features include: a switchable limiter that attenuates high-level signals to prevent recording overload; drawing power from the iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch dock connector; USB input for charging your device while recording; CD-quality digital recording (44.1kHz/16-bit linear PCM); compatibility with iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod Touch 4G, iPad, iPad 2.

“The iM2 stereo mic was a natural succession after our well-received launching of the iXZ mic/guitar interface in September. Anyone can come out with an iOS product, but we want to ensure that our portable devices are of the utmost quality and I believe this product will be another hit with our customers.“ said Paul Jenkins, Senior Vice President for TEAC America.
