PC Tools has released iAntivirus 1.35, the latest version of its antivirus software for Mac. Debates whether or not Macs need antivirus solutions belong in the comments. For now, existing users are advised to update. Newcomers should read the full piece to learn more about iAntiVirus for Mac.
According to the release notes for iAntiVirus 1.35, PC Tools was able to resolve a UI issue, while reducing the size of the software package. The installer is now 3.2MB and expands to 8.2MB on your hard drive, when installed. Lastly, PC Tools claims to have included the latest database with the new version.
"The Mac has a solid reputation for remaining relatively threat free. However, we are witnessing the use of low level malware scripts to identify whether there is the potential to infect the Mac OS, as well as the opportunity for malware producers to obtain a significant return on investment," said PC Tools CEO Simon Clausen.
PC Tools informs Mac users that the iAntiVirus database has been designed to detect and remove only Mac-specific threats. This means that iAntiVirus' database will not be cluttered with signatures for Windows-specific threats - as a Mac user, you are immune to those. As a result of this, you get a high level of protection whilst keeping memory footprint and resource usage at a minimum, according to PC Tools.
The iAntiVirus user interface is "purely functional," the developer explains, making it easy to scan for viruses, remove and manage infections, and more. As any quality antivirus software, iAntiVirus allows Mac users to use multiple scan types, providing a balance between optimizing system performance and the thoroughness of a scan. Everything else you would expect from an antivirus program is there.
iAntiVirus works in the background, blocking and removing threats "without any system impact," PC Tools says. A small alert window is displayed when your Mac has been protected against an attack.
