Coming to O2 Germany in June

It seems the Korean mobile phone maker Samsung has made a step closer to the release of its first smartphone that will run under the Google Android operating system, and the device that will come to the market with the platform will be the Samsung i7500, and not the S8000, as previous rumors suggested.

The Samsung i7500 is reported to be only 11.9 mm thick, and will feature no hardware keypad. The phone sports a rather attractive design, and it is expected to become available sometime in June, being launched on O2 Germany's airwaves with a price tag that seems to have been set at around €300 ($398).

According to the specification list of the Samsung i7500, it will come with the Android 1.5 (Cupcake) operating system, while offering quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity, as well as dual-band UMTS/HSPA connectivity, not to mention its Wi-Fi capabilities and the Bluetooth functionality included in the package.

The phone features a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen OLED display that can provide a 480 x 320 pixel HVGA resolution as well as a 5-megapixel photo snapper with LED flash, not to mention the GPS capabilities, the 3.5mm headset jack, a 528 MHz Qualcomm MSM7200A CPU, 8GB of internal memory and a microSD memory card for additional storage space.

According to the German BamS (Bild am Sonntag), the Samsung i7500 will be exclusive with O2 in Germany, and the €300 price tag does not require for users to sign a contract agreement with the carrier, which, we might say, seems to be a rather attractive price for a handset sporting such nice features. Given the fact that the first Samsung Android device is reported to come in June, it shouldn't be too long before some official details on it become available, so stay tuned to learn more on this.
