You've heard about i-mate's JAQ4 handheld before and you've already seen it. But, on December 7th 2006 when it showed up on the web, you weren't seeing its true face because as it shows those where just some imaginative renderings of what somebody thought the device would look like.

Now i-mate has officially unveiled the newest addition to its JAQ line-up, a device a little shorter and just a little wider than the JAQ3 but I'm not complaining about that because they made use of that extra space by adding a bigger 2.8 inch 65k colors QVGA TFT touchscreen, a nice upgrade from the 2.4 inch one available on the JAQ3.

The quad-band GSM handheld features GPRS and EDGE connectivity and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g WLAN, wireless Bluetooth with stereo A2DP profile, 128MB of ROM and 64 MB of RAM memory, infrared, e-mail, Java, GPS capabilities, a 2 megapixel digital camera with video capture abilities and macro mode, a miniSD memory expansion card slot and a Windows Mobile 6 Professional operating system.

The handset measures 125 x 71 x 16.5 mm (4.9 x 2.8 x 0.6 inch), weighs 184 grams (about 6.5 ounces) and will offer you up to 5 hours of continuous talk time and 8.25 days in standby.

Even if the JAQ4 is not such a svelte handset and it doesn't have a very innovative and appealing design, it still is the first handheld from i-mate that comes with Microsoft's latest mobile OS and that will probably be enough for the customers to like it.

Considering the fact that the JAQ3 has arrived on the US store shelves in the end I guess its safe to presume the JAQ4 will also get launched there, but not before the 1st quarter of 2007.

Pricing and exact availability date have not been officially announced so hang on there for some more details as soon as possible.
