N64 nostalgia, don't try to fight it, embrace it

The guys at Hyperkin, a bunch of tech-heads obsessed with working retro-designed machines managed to get an Xbox One controller circuits board into an N64 controller.

The Hyperkin company made itself world famous when it managed to produce a retro-designed-Android-powered home console Retron 5, built to play your most beloved retro titles of your childhood.

Right now the company wants to go further and actually bring your old and forgotten N64 controller connected to your latest Xbox One controller. Keeping in mind that the Xbox One controller supports dual sticks while the original N64 supports only one, it will be quite difficult to pull this off completely. However, they managed to do it partially.

In the video they posted on YouTube, they manage to get the three-pronged paddle navigate the console's dashboard and select apps, but as I mentioned before, having one analog stick will rule out playing modern games on this retro controller. The trigger will apparently input itself at times, and the controls are a bit laggy and weird, but they could pull it off in the end.

Wonky, but with great potential

In the video description, we can see Chris Gallizzi showing off his first wired N64 prototype, wonder if a wireless one would ever come, and saying that he prepares the controller for the Rare Replay Collection. The Rare Replay event that will come out in August this year will see Microsoft presenting thirty titles from Rare Studios coming on Xbox One including the infamous Battletoads the Banjo-Kazooie and Perfect Dark.

We can only imagine the public's delight of enjoying the collection coming on Xbox One on this tweaked Xbox One controller in an N64 shell, and I won't be surprised at all to see Microsoft sell a limited Rare edition of Xbox One consoles bundled with this modified controller.

Time will tell, until then enjoy the video:
