Developer Heart Machine has announced the delay of their highly anticipated top-down action-role-playing game Hyper Light Drifter.

The latest Hyper Light Drifter Kickstarter update offers a couple of new in-game art pieces, updates for backer tiers and the unfortunate news of the delay, which is not something uncommon as far as Kickstarter games go.

The Hyper Light Drifter crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter garnered an unexpected interest in the game, raising an impressive $645k / €477, which comes to almost 24x the original goal. Not bad at all.

The quantity of unplanned resources made available to Heart Machine, of course, meant a different scope for the whole project.

Consequently, the team plans to release the closed beta around June, and a full launch is scheduled for the end of the year holiday season, for PC on Steam, with other platforms (Mac, PS Vita, PS4 and Wii U) to follow shortly after.

The game features gorgeous pixel art and a very atmospheric visual direction, with strong bright colors and interesting, detailed backgrounds, as well as fast-paced skill-intensive combat, as can be seen in this developer video.
