Samsung might be looking to take tablets to the next level

We just told you that Samsung released a teaser for its upcoming Unpacked event scheduled for August 13 in New York, which consisted of an image showing three devices. And one of them seemed to be a tablet (the others are probably the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+).

Well, the folks at NowhereElse made an interesting find while poking through India’s import/export website Zauba. They stumbled upon a Samsung tablet prototype going by model number SS-18.4, which had been sent in the country for testing and evaluation purposes.

We’re not told anything about the device’s specifications, but one thing certainly stands out: the slate has a massive 18.4-inch form factor. It doesn’t seem like anything we have seen grace the market so far.

So, could this be the tablet Samsung will end up unveiling at the Unpacked event? Your guess is as good as ours at this point.

We’ve already said more than once that tablet evolution has come to an abrupt end in recent days, so is Samsung trying to revitalize things? It could be. However, the large form factor does make us think of another theory: it is possible that the 18.4-inch slate is not an edge tablet but a flexible device that might get folded up into a smaller machine.

Samsung was rumored to have shown a bendable tablet like this to insiders back at MWC 2014, so maybe the prototype is finally getting readied for some prime-time.
