Huawei wants to deliver faster Android updates

Chinese device maker Huawei has recently managed to climb and grab the third spot in the top of global smartphone vendors, as its profits continue to be on the rise. The company has also developed a partnership with Google this year to produce the next-gen Nexus 6 smartphone, so the spotlight is on it more than ever in 2015.

On top of developing pretty nice smartphones, Huawei is also producing its own chipsets (called Kirin), plus its personal skin for Android called Emotion UI (EMUI).

These are all positive aspects that make us understand why the company has risen to where it stands now, but that doesn’t mean Huawei doesn’t have its weak spots.

For example, the company is pretty sluggish in delivering software updates. It took Huawei months to start pushing the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to some of its older models, when other device makers like LG, Motorola and Samsung did so far more quickly.

EMUI 4.0 based on Android 6.0 might be coming soon

But maybe with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, Huawei will be writing another page of history. The company’s Android-based skin is at version 3 at the moment, but according to a new leak coming out of Chinese website Mobile Dad, Huawei is hard at work developing version 4.0, which is based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

The report says that the man in charge of EMUI 4.0’s development, Meng Qui Hai, has right-out confirmed that the EMUI 4.0 skin will be out before the end of the year. He did not offer any more juicy details about the new UI, but Mobile Dad is giving us a quick peek at a leaked document listing the devices which are in line for the Android M update.

Under the Huawei tag, we can spot the Ascend P8, Mate7 and Honor 6 Plus (plus more), so we can assume that these flagships will start getting the new update by the end of the year. It is definitely a possibility.

In the meanwhile, in the upcoming weeks, we expect to see the first screenshots showing what EMUI 4.0 will be all about. The company will probably continue to build upon the unique look of the previous EMUI 3.0. Let’s just hope it will make the new version less cluttered though.
