A few months ago, Huawei had managed to sell about 100 million smartphones worldwide and it seemed that the company might actually manage to reach its year goal before the end of December. Huawei’s VP has just announced that the smartphone maker has set another record.

Huawei’s Senior Vice President stated in a recent interview that Huawei sold 140 million smartphones this year, a new record for the Chinese smartphone maker, according to GizmoChina. Last year, Huawei announced that it sold 108 million smartphones, which means that this year the company sold 30 million more phones.

Huawei is currently the third largest smartphone maker in the world, after Samsung and Apple, and the company is aiming at surpassing the manufacturer of iPhones by 2018. Huawei managed to sell over 10 million P9 smartphones this year and it intends to raise the number to 12 million until its successor, the P10, is announced.

Huawei sold 7 million Mate 8 smartphones

There still are a few days until the year’s end, so the number of sold devices could actually increase. The Chinese smartphone maker sold 7 million Mate 8 phones, but there aren’t any reports about some of its other phones. Huawei offers smartphones for all budgets and it recently made an impression on the high-end market with the Mate 9, Mate 9 Pro, and Mate 9 Porsche Design.

Moreover, the company’s Kirin 970 flagship SoC is expected to arrive early next year, while the next premium smartphone from Huawei could be announced in April. The P10 will bring major improvements to this year’s Huawei P9, including dual-curved display and wireless charging. It is also said to have a larger display of 5.5 inches, 6GB of RAM, and 256GB of internal storage.

All in all, Huawei has had a pretty good year when it comes to smartphone sales and the prospects for 2017 are highly favorable. A more detailed sales report will surely be provided soon.
