The company confirmed its major MWC 2016 press event

Great news for Huawei fans, as the Chinese company has just confirmed it will unveil its newest smartphone on February 21.

Unfortunately, that puts Huawei's major MWC 2016 event on the same day Samsung plans to announce its Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge.

LG has its own press event on February 21 as well, but it's unclear whether or not the South Korean company will launch its flagship smartphone, the G5, at MWC 2016.

So, February 21 will be a very busy day for mobile phone vendors and tech-savvy people alike. It remains to be seen which company will be able to gather more followers to its cause, though some might say that strength isn't necessarily in numbers.

Although Huawei has already sent out invites for its MWC 2016 press event, no hints at what device might be announced there have been revealed yet. Here is what the invitation reads:

“We invite you to join Richard Yu, Chief Executive Officer, Huawei Consumer Business Group, and other Huawei executives, for the global unveiling of Huawei’s newest device at Mobile World Congress 2016. Come see how Huawei continues to meet the demands of the next generation of mobile innovation.”

Huawei Mate 8 or P9? Perhaps neither

Huawei, now the world's third smartphones vendor after Samsung and Apple, has already introduced one of the most powerful handsets available on the market, Mate 8.

The phablet is already available for purchase in China and a few other countries, but Huawei hasn't yet kicked off the global rollout of the smartphone.

There's a chance that Huawei will use MWC 2016 to make the Mate 8 more popular among Android fans and announce its worldwide release.

Another device rumored to arrive this year, the Huawei P9, is expected to be unveiled a few weeks after MWC 2016.

The P9 was initially said to be the world's first smartphone to pack 6GB RAM, but the information hasn't been supported by any evidence.

It remains to be seen whether Huawei will launch a new handset that we're not aware of yet, or will bring the Mate 8 to a larger audience.
