Senior XDA Developers member joe2k01 recently published new custom kernels for the Huawei Honor 8 and Honor 8 Pro smartphones, which is called WhitePugKernel and it's based on the Linux kernel 4.x series.

Shipping with three different governors, including alucard, blu and darkness, the WhitePugKernel mod for Honor 8 and Honor 8 Pro mobile phones appears to bring a lot of goodies to users of these devices, such as support for the NTFS (read/write), HFS, HFS+, and MSDOS filesystems.

Additionally, the custom kernel offers XZ and LZO kernel compression support, ZRAM support with LZ4 compression, three schedulers, including fiops I/O, sio I/O and zen I/O, an option to disable fsync, faster fingerprint wakeup, fingerprint gestures, as well as Xbox joypad support, though it's untested at the moment.

Don't install this custom kernel if your device is in warranty

joe2k01's WhitePugKernel mod appears to be based on OpenKirin's source, and the developer warns those who want to flash it on their devices that they'll encounter the same bugs as in RROS. Also, before installing this custom kernel, you should know that you're doing it on your own risk, and the warranty will be void!

"I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards, thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications," says the developer on the XDA Developers forum.

Therefore, if your Huawei Honor 8 or Honor 8 Pro are no longer under warranty and you want the features listed above, go ahead and download/install the WhitePugKernel mod following the instructions provided here and here. Otherwise, we don't recommend installing if your device is still in warranty.
