Only a few days have passed since Huawei released the Honor 8 smartphone in China, and it seems that the company has already unveiled another handset. Huawei Maimang 5 is the successor to Maimang 4, which was released in July of last year and sold under the Huawei G8 name in certain countries.

Huawei has released a few high-end devices this year, but Maimang 5 isn't one of them. Rather, it's a mid-range smartphone with a Snapdragon 625 that does its job but can't keep up with the latest Huawei Kirin processors, according to Phone Radar.

Nevertheless, the handset comes with a metal body and diamond cut edges, as well as a 2.5D glass screen. The display measures 5.5-inches and boasts 1080p FHD resolution. The phone measures 7.3mm in thickness and weighs 167 grams.

It also sports a fingerprint scanner located on the back and packs the aforementioned Snapdragon 625 chipset clocked at 2GHz. Huawei offers the smartphone in two variants, one with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage while the other one comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory.

Aside from this, the device has a 16MP Sony IMX298 sensor, with dual tone flash, 6P lens, PDAF and Hybrid AF. In addition, it can capture 4K videos at 30fps. The front camera capacity is 8MP with f/2.0 aperture.

The smartphone draws power from a 3,340mAh battery and runs on Android Marshmallow 6.0 with EMUI 4.1 on top. It also has USB Type-c port and supports 4G+.

The Maimang 5 didn't come with the same powerful specs, as it packed Snapdragon 615 SoC and the battery had a much lower capacity of 3,000mAh. Overall, its successor is a clear improvement.

Huawei Maimang 5 will go on sale at JD.com, Huawei mall, Lynx store, and Suning for about $360 for the 3GB version and $389 for the 4G of RAM variant.
