The update is only available for download manually

Huawei P8 Lite was launched in Europe back in May with the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop operating system onboard. However, the US version of the smartphone that was introduced one month later is powered by Android 4.4.4 KitKat instead.

That was kind of weird since we're talking about the same device that comes one month later in a country, but with an older version of Android.

The good news is Huawei has just announced that the US variant of P8 Lite (model ALE-L04) is now upgradeable to Android 5.1 Lollipop.

The Chinese company has just released the update on its official website, but there's a catch (in fact there are two). First of all, Huawei has confirmed there won't be an OTA (over the air) update available for this version of P8 Lite.

No OTA update will be available in the future

This means that the only way to update to Android 5.1 Lollipop is to manually download the update from the website directly on your phone. Moreover, in order to be able to upgrade, you will also need a microSD card with at least 4GB of free space.

The second thing you need to know before attempting to upgrade to Android 5.1 Lollipop is that flashing the file on your Huawei P8 Lite will completely erase all the data on your smartphone, so you might want to make a backup first.

It's also worth mentioning that you will need to download two files in order to upgrade your P8 Lite to Android 5.1 Lollipop.

The transfer package (KitKat to Lollipop) and the main package (ALE-L04C567B309) are both required in order to upgrade from the older version of Android.

If you don't have a clue on how to download and flash the Android 5.1 Lollipop update file on your Huawei P8 Lite, you will be pleased to know that the Chinese company is also offering a PDF guide with instructions.
