Huawei promised to bring Android 7.0 Nougat to the P9 as fast as possible, but it looks like the update won't be available by the time its new flagships, the P10 and P10 Plus will go on sale.

However, it won't be long after P10 and P10 Plus hit the shelves that the previous flagship, the Huawei P9 will be upgraded to Android 7.0 Nougat. The Chinese company confirmed recently that it will start rolling out the long-awaited update in Q1 2017.

Along with Android 7.0 Nougat, Huawei will also deliver EMUI 5.0 to those owning the P9. Hopefully, the new EMUI 5.1 will also be made available to Huawei P9 devices at a later date, but for not the user interface will remain exclusive to the P10 and P10 Plus.

It's worth mentioning Huawei P9 has already received the Android 7.0 Nougat update months ago, but only in China. Since then, the handset maker has been mum on the availability of the upgrade, so today's announcement comes as a nice surprise.

According to Huawei India, the EMUI 5.0 (and Android 7.0 Nougat) will be rolled out globally in Q1 2017. Since March is the last month of the first quarter, it makes sense to assume the update till be pushed to Huawei P9 devices in just a couple of weeks.

Aside from Android 7.0 Nougat and EMUI 5.0, we're also expecting Huawei to include the latest security patch, possibly the one released by Google in March.

The global rollout of such a major OS update will most likely take a lot of time, but once it starts, it will propagate to more countries like a wave in a huge pond.

There's no telling which countries will get it first, but it's likely that those who beta tested the update will receive it first.
