Samsung joined the dual-camera fun earlier this week when it unveiled the Galaxy Note 8, and the company is very likely to continue the party with the Galaxy S9 in the spring of the next year, but while the South Koreans are only now exploring this market, others have been playing with dual cameras for a long time.

Huawei, for instance, just couldn’t miss the occasion to make fun of Samsung, although subtly, after the company decided to launch a dual-camera phone.

In a post on Twitter, Huawei Australia welcomes someone to the dual camera family, only a few hours after Samsung officially announced the Galaxy Note 8 with a dual camera.

Late to the party?

Furthermore, Huawei has tweeted a photo to show that it’s been around in the dual-camera market since April 2016 when it launched the Huawei P9 and the P9 Plus, as well as several other models since then, including the Huawei Mate 9 and the Huawei P10 Plus. The P9 used 2 12-megapixel cameras with f/2.2, 1/2.9” sensor size and 1.25 um pixel size.

Another Samsung reference is made in the case of an unnamed device included in Huawei’s tweet and which is likely the Mate 10, which is labeled as coming on October 16 with the hashtag #beyondthegalaxy.

As Huawei clearly confirms with this photo, the Mate 10 will also come with a dual-camera configuration in a vertical layout, though the exact specs of the camera are not known just yet.

Apple is also expected to expand the dual camera family with another model as early as next month, as the anniversary iPhone 8 will also embrace this technology, in addition to the iPhone 7 Plus and the upcoming iPhone 7s Plus. The iPhone 8 will feature vertical dual cameras with undisclosed specs, but all details will be unveiled in just a few weeks at Apple’s press event.
