Huawei has just unveiled the Mate X, which is the very first rival to the Samsung Galaxy Fold that was announced earlier this month.

The Mate X comes with a screen that measures no less than 8 inches and has a resolution of 2480x2000 pixels, with several modes offered, including a folded version that reduces the display to 6.6 inches.

Furthermore, you can set the Mate X to 6.4 inches and a resolution of 2480x892 pixels when using the back, with Huawei saying this is the right configuration for one-hand use.

Huawei praised the design of the Mate X heavily, emphasizing that unlike competitors, the company didn’t have to turn to gimmicks like camera notches, which in turn leads to increased screen estate. The Mate X is just 11mm thin, which is a significant improvement from 17mm on the “other foldable phone,” as the Chinese company said.

Technical specifications

The Mate X is powered by Huawei’s very own Kirin 980 chipset that is paired with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. It comes with a 4,500 mAh battery and support for Huawei SuperCharge 55W, which is Huawei’s latest fast charging mode that can recharge the device up to 85 percent in just 30 minutes and which is 600 percent faster than iPhone XS Max.

Additionally, the Mate X offers full support for 5G networks thanks to a Balong 5000 modem. Dual-SIM support is also offered.

Huawei hasn’t provided any specs concerning the camera, but it once again praised its capabilities, claiming the device features the “best-in-class selfie with new Leica camera.”

Needless to say, the Huawei Mate X won’t come cheap, as the device will be sold from 2,299 Euros with 8GB RAM and 512GB of storage. It will be available from the middle of 2019.
