14 DAY TRIAL // As expected, Huawei has just unveiled the new Honor 9 smartphone with a dual-camera setup on the back and a 5.15-inch display. The smartphone will be made available for purchase on June 16 at Vmall and a number of other retailers in China.
Honor 9’s internal spec sheet confirms previous rumors, which pointed towards a 5.15-inch 1080p display with DCI-P3 color space, also featured on Apple's iPhone 7 and Samsung’s Galaxy S8. The smartphone runs Android 7.0 Nougat with EMUI 5.1 on top.
Inside, the Honor 9 runs a Kirin 960 chipset, which was also featured on the Huawei P10 and Mate 9. RAM capacity is 4GB or 6GB, while the phone is offered in multiple options in terms of internal storage, including 64GB or 128GB, both expandable using a microSD card.
Honor 9 comes with a dual-camera setup on the back
One of the phone’s main highlights is the dual-camera setup on the back, which incorporates a 12MP and a 20MP sensor, together with 2x optical zoom, portrait and bokeh modes. On the front, the smartphone comes with an 8MP selfie camera.
Huawei also launched Huawei Pay in China today. The mobile payment solution works over NFC and allows users to perform various financial transactions more easily. Honor 9 supports Huawei Pay and comes with 4G VoLTE, WiFi and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Battery capacity inside the new smartphone reaches 3,200mAh and the phone comes with a metal body and glass back.
The fingerprint scanner has been moved to the front of the smartphone, compared to the back panel on its predecessor, the Honor 8. The Honor 9 also comes with Hi-Fi audio chip which provides 90% increment in purity and 60% increase in fidelity.
In terms of color options, Honor 9 will be made available in Black, Grey, Blue and Amber Gold hues. Prices start at $400 (€355) for the 6GB of RAM and 64GB model and $440 (€395) for the variant with 128GB of internal storage. The 4GB of RAM variant will cost approximately $340 (€303).
