While Google has just officially launched the Android 6.0 Marshmallow, some devices are still being updated to Android 5.xx Lollipop. Now, just a few days after rolling the Android 5.1 update for the Huawei Honor 6 in India, the company is releasing the same build for the photo-centric Honor 6 Plus model.

The Android 5.1.1 update adds new features, functionalities and a better user experience alongside a new version of the company’s own Emotion UI 3.1. So if you are the owner of a Huawei Honor 6 Plus and you can’t wait, you can manually download and install it on the device.

Before doing so, you should have your phone’s battery at least 60% charged and have enough free storage on board, as the file weighs about 1.2GB.

Once you update your device, you should expect to be able to enjoy a host of new features, including the fact that you’ll now be able to see notifications on the home screen with no unlocking required to actually read them. Notifications can now be accessed via the notifications bar on the unlock screen. No swiping involved.

Since the Honor 6 Plus is a photo-centric device, the update brings some goodies in this department as well by introducing time-lapse photography. So regardless of how long the photo is, a video up to 40s will be generated by means of intelligent dynamic frame extraction.

The new build also adds the so-called “Hidden Apps” on the home screen, which will allow you to hide applications directly on the home screen. To show these apps, all you need to do is slide upward with two fingers on the home page.

Last but not least, users get Badge App icons, which means they can disable badges for a particular icon.

Note that the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for the Huawei 6 Plus is not available over the air (OTA), so you’ll need to manually download it via the Honor India support site in order to install it on your phone.

Download the file directly onto the phone’s internal memory and reboot the Honor 6 Plus to recovery mode by pressing and holding Volume Down + Power at the same time. Afterwards, tap the “Install update zip” option to start the installation of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop on your device.
