Just a few hours ago, we told you that Chinese device maker Huawei finally kicked-started the Android 5.1 Lollipop public beta for its Ascend P7 handset that was running Android 4.4.2 KitKat upon launch.

Reports are now coming in from users in Italy and Spain confirming that Huawei has started sending out invites for the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for Ascend P7.

But a while back, Huawei promised that more of its high-end and mid-range devices would be updated to Lollipop. And today is Honor 6’s turn to receive the Lollipop treatment.

Giz China is reporting that users located in France, UK and Germany are now able to sign up to Huawei’s Beta test platform if they want to get Android 5.1 onto their Honor 6 smartphones.

The device maker has decided to kick-start a beta testing program, and users installing the new system update will be asked to provide feedback on their experience with the new software. For the time being, however, Huawei can’t accommodate just everyone.

Huawei only needs 100 beta testers for now

The company has only 100 free places for the Beta update via its Honor Club platform. So if you want to be eligible to become a beta tester for Huawei, you’ll need to apply first and answer a bunch of questions that will help them decide whether you are beta tester material or not.

Android 5.1 for the Huawei Honor 6 is a stock install based on EMUI 3.1, the company’s own custom skin.

For those of you who don’t remember but got their interest in the phone spiked by this article, we’ll tell you that the Honor 6 boasts a 5-inch full HD  (1080p) capacitive touchscreen display and takes advantage of a powerful HiSilicone Kirin 920 chipset that accommodates a quad-core Cortex-A7 processor, a quad-core Cortex-A15 CPU and a Mali-T624 graphics processing unit.

Furthermore, the Honor 6 packs 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory, expandable via 64GB of internal storage via microSD card.

On the imaging front, the Honor 6 boasts a 13MP main camera with autofocus, dual-LED and full HD (1080p) video recording. Up in front, we see a secondary 5MP camera that should be capable of shooting great selfies.

All in all, the Honor 6 is a pretty decent phone and Android 5.1 Lollipop will make it even better.
