The phone is the successor to last year’s Honor 4X

Back in October 2014, Huawei pushed out the Honor 4X smartphone, another member of its growing portfolio of mid-range devices. The device made a debut with a 5.5-inch display with 720p resolution (1280 x 720 pixels) and a Snapdragon 410 processor under the hood.

Originally launched with Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box, Huawei later updated it to Android 5.0 Lollipop. Anyway, it’s been almost a year since the phone was made available on the market, so as the natural progression of things entails, Huawei is gearing up to produce a successor to the current model.

The Huawei Honor 5X has already been spotted in China’s regulatory database, TENAA. Interestingly enough, it seems like the Chinese device maker wants to make the device more premium than before, as the Honor 5X we’re seeing in the images reveals an all metal-clad smartphone.

Actually, the design appears similar to what we saw with Huawei’s higher-models, including the Mate7 and P8. The images also reveal a slightly protruding camera with LED flash.

Huawei Honor 5X will make for a super affordable mid-ranger

Sadly, the TEENA listing doesn’t reveal the full set of specifications, but we are told that Huawei wants to challenge the market by offering the Honor 5X with a super affordable price tag of around $157 / €139.

While there’s no official information about the specs list, we can speculate that a phone with this price tag could bring about a 5.5-inch FHD display with 1080p resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels) and a Snapdragon 615 or MediaTek MT6753 processor nestled under the hood. On the other hand, Huawei could go wild and decide on a Snapdragon 808 chipset, as Xiaomi has done with its recent Mi4c.

There should be at least 2GB of RAM on board plus 16GB of internal storage. In the photo department, we expect to see a 13MP shooter as the main snapper and a 5MP selfie camera. But what will make this upper-intermediate device special will certainly be its posh metal design and fingerprint scanner.

Since the phone has been making an appearance in TENAA, we have to guess the device will be unveiled soon enough. We’ll keep an eye out for it when it comes.
