The Huawei Ascent Mate7 made a debut into the wild back at IFA 2014 in Berlin. The device is of the flagship variety and arrives with a spacious 6-inch display, features a metal body and a fingerprint reader. To this day, the Ascent Mate7 is still considered to be a pretty sweet offering, but recently the phone has gotten better.

Well, if we’re not factoring in the fact that the Google has just released Android 6.0 Marshmallow into the wild and supported Nexus devices (Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 9, Nexus 7 2013 and Nexus Player) are getting it in a few days. With this in mind, some models like the Ascent Mate7 present here are barely being updated to the latest Lollipop build.

Evidence of which stands that Android 5.1.1 Lollipop for the Huawei Ascent Mate7 has popped up on the company own support website. The new OS adds a whole host of Android improvements to the handset, as well as the updated EMUI 3.1 UI.

The update does not arrive as an OTA for the time being, so you’ll have to download it via the link we’re providing you with. Android 5.1.1 Lollipop is available for the most popular variants, including the MT7-L09 and MT7-TL10, and weighs about 1.2GB.

The OTA is not yet available but will come later

The OTA update should arrive later, but if you’re anxious, you can go ahead and install the new build manually. Just remember to have your phone’s battery at least 60% charged and have enough free storage on board as the new build is pretty large.

You should also note that installing the update on your device results in wiping all available data on your phone, so you’ll need to back up before going any further. If that’s too much of a hassle for you, we recommend you wait for the OTA update.

The one-year-old Huawei Ascent Mate7 was launched with a 6-inch display with 1080p resolution and bundles an octa-core Kirin 925 processor featuring four 1.8GHz Cortex-A15 cores and four 1.3GHz Cortex-A7 cores alongside Mali-T628 GPU. Huawei sells two versions, one with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage and another with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of built-in storage.

As you can see, the device is pretty decently specced, so with Lollipop on board, it will be even better.
