HTC Vive Pro was announced today, and it’s available for global pre-orders for the measly sum of just $799.

The gaming industry has been trying to improve the VR experience for a very long time, and it’s inching its way towards a future dominated by this technology. Each new iteration of a VR headset improved upon the previous version, and we have all the reasons to believe that the same will happen with the HTC Vive Pro that’s launching next month.

It also helps that Valve is assisting HTC to develop this technology and that there is a vast library of games available for people buying this tech. It’s not all that cheap and using some demos that only show the potential is no longer enough.

Better everything

As you would expect, the latest version of HTC Vive Pro features massive upgrades for pretty much everything, especially to the display.

HTC mentions on their website that “The Vive Pro comes with dual-OLED displays, making for a crisper image resolution of 2880 x 1600 combined, a 78% increase in resolution over the current Vive HMD. In addition to visuals, Vive Pro also features integrated, high-performance headphones with a built-in amplifier that creates a heightened sense of presence and sound through noise cancellation capabilities.”

It’s important to mention that The Vive Pro has been engendered to work with both SteamVR Tracking 1.0 and 2.0, which means that users can keep the preceding base station and controllers, which is a huge plus.

More than 3.000 titles are available for HTC Vive Pro; it should be easy to find something you like. Of course, the Viveport Subscription will continue to receive four free games each month, for as long as the subscription lasts.

The preorder is now open, and the devices should start shipping April 5th. Furthermore, If you find the new version too expensive, a $100 price reduction has been applied to the current Vive full kit, so the final price is $499.
