HTC has just unveiled its latest U11 flagship, which brings notable improvements compared to last year’s HTC 10, as well as a new Edge Sense feature for launching Google Assistant and Alexa. Additionally, the camera on the HTC U11 is one of the most impressive on the market, according to DxOMark.

DxOMark is the trusted industry standard for camera and lens image quality measurements and ratings, and it granted the Galaxy S8 a score of 88 for its camera capabilities. The Google Pixel is at the top of the chart with a score of 89, while the Galaxy S8 managed to record the same score as last year’s Galaxy S7.

However, HTC’s latest flagship, the U11, is the most impressive in this department, managing to score 90 points and standing at the top of the DxOMark scale. The industry standard reveals that the U11 recorded impressive scores during all tests, thanks to its very low noise and fast autofocus features.

The camera managed to deliver consistent performance in various shooting conditions and provided good rendering. It seems that the 12MP f/1.7 aperture sensor with dual-LED flash, laser autofocus and OIS managed to outscore the Galaxy S8, LG G6, and even the Google Pixel. HTC U11 thus ends Pixel’s reign as the best smartphone camera on the market, about eight months after Google released the phone.

On the front, HTC U11 comes with a 16MP wide-angle sensor for group selfies, but it’s the dual-pixel PDAF that sets this phone apart from others on the market, at least in terms of camera capabilities. The U11’s OIS managed to produce multi-image captures with low noise. In terms of cons, a slight blush cast was visible in some images taken outdoor, while luminance noise was “slightly visible in the sky.” Still, DxOMark says the U11 is “the highest-scoring in both still image quality and video quality, beating out the Google Pixel by 1 point in each.”

All in all, with its powerful specs, appealing Edge Sense frame and design, as well as excellent camera capabilities, HTC U11 seems ready to take on the top flagships on the market, including the Galaxy S8.
