HTC has just released the first video teaser that's supposed to increase the hype around its launch event scheduled for January 12. The Taiwanese company named its press conference HTC U and the video suggests the name has been chosen because the upcoming smartphones are all “for you.”

Another piece of information revealed in the teaser is the fact that the event will be live streamed starting January 12 at 16:00 GMT. Unfortunately, no details about the products to be announced later today have been unveiled in the 10-second video teaser.

But if you absolutely must know what HTC plans to reveal at the event, then you can continue to read on since we've already learned quite a few things about the U phones.

First of all, HTC is expected to introduce two new smartphones later today, the U Ultra and U Play. They will target the high-end and mid-range markets, though we don't have any information about their price tags yet.

The cheaper of the two, which will be launched on the market as HTC U Play, is expected to sport a 5.2-inch display with full HD (1080p) resolution.

Also, the smartphone will pack an octa-core MediaTek MT6755 processor, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal memory.

The U Play will come with a 16-megapixel camera on the back, along with a similar 16-megapixel photo snapper in the front. The handset will be powered by a 2,500 mAh battery, but we don't know whether or not it will run Android 7.0 Nougat.

The other phone to be announced today is the HTC U Ultra. The company's flagship smartphone is likely to be powered by Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 835 processor, coupled with 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage.

The U Ultra is rumored to boast a large 6-inch display with Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution. Other highlights might include dual-camera setup (24MP+13MP cameras), USB Type-C port, LTE support, and fingerprint sensor.
