LG is one of Google's long-time partners for the Nexus lineup, but the search giant chose Huawei to build its true flagship smartphone, the Nexus 6P.

However, it looks like this year Google might choose to work with another company. It's unclear how many Nexus smartphones will be launched this year, but it looks like HTC is likely to build two devices in 2016.

The rumor started a few days ago on Weibo when news about two possible Nexus smartphones manufactured by HTC emerged online.

The smartphones are said to pack 5-inch and 5.5-inch displays, which means Google plans to target both the mid-range and high-tier markets, once again.

Today, famous HTC leakster @LlabTooFeR seems to have confirmed the information by leaking the codenames of the two Nexus smartphones to be manufactured by the Taiwanese company.

Apparently, the two unannounced HTC Nexus smartphones are internally known as T50 and T55, which comes in line with the previous rumor that these devices will sport 5-inch and 5.5-inch displays, respectively.

Google might provide HTC with a safe belt

HTC is no newcomer to the Nexus lineup, as the company launched one of the most popular smartphone in the family, the Google Nexus One, which hit shelves back in 2010.

The Taiwanese company also build the Nexus 9 tablet for Google, another successful product in the Nexus family.

If Google will choose HTC to manufacture its next two Nexus smartphones, it will provide the Taiwanese company with a solid financial safe belt for the rest of the year.

HTC has been in financial troubles for a few years now, but the latest results show an even bleaker future for the handset maker.

No additional details on the alleged Nexus smartphones build by HTC have been leaked online yet, but if the information proves to be accurate, we expect more to emerge in the coming months.
