Despite all the controversy regarding HTC One A9's design, the smartphone proves to be pretty popular among Android fans. The device was launched in the United States as well as other markets where HTC is selling its products.

However, there was much talk about the phone's price tag, which was initially set to $400 for only a few weeks. The handset's price was up by $100 beginning November 7, so customers have to come up with $500 upfront to get the One A9.

Today, another version of HTC One A9 has been spotted in China, though the phone hasn't been announced by the Taiwanese handset maker yet.

An unannounced HTC One A9w has been recently spotted at TENAA, the Chinese regulatory commission, and looking at the phone's specs sheet, it appears that this is the same device as the One A9.

It comes with 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM only

The TENAA listing confirms that the One A9w packs a 5-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution.

Although the listing does not mention the name of the chipset, it does reveal that it's a 1.5GHz octa-core processor. In this regard, it's worth pointing out that the original One A9 comes with a Snapdragon 617 CPU clocked at the same frequency.

HTC One A9w also packs 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory expandable up to 128GB via microSD card slot.

The question is why HTC would launch an such a similar version of the One A9. Well, the “w” letter in the phone's name might point to a Windows Phone variant of HTC One A9, which wouldn't be that surprising.

Another possibility would be another version of HTC One A9 with a MediaTek chipset inside, which would mean a lower price. Only time will tell which of these theories is accurate.
