HTC will be manufacturing the upcoming Nexus Marlin, together with the Nexus Sailfish. Of the two smartphones, the former will sport the bigger screen while the latter will have slightly lower specs. HTC Nexus Marlin has just leaked in an image for the first time.

The leak has appeared over at TechDroider, and it reveals that HTC Nexus Marlin is running Android Nougat 7.0. This isn't surprising since Google tends to release Nexus phones shortly after the public global rollout of a new Android OS version, and these handsets are usually the first to come with the new OS out of the box.

The image shows the Nexus Marlin with the display turned on, while also revealing the Phone Status section of Settings category. The prototype is covered with a case, as if to make it difficult to distinguish its design. Just recently, the two smartphones were featured in unofficial renders, which gave us a glimpse of their design.

Nexus Marlin is said to come with USB Type-C and a fingerprint scanner on the back

Word is that Nexus Marlin could pack a 5.5-inch AMOLED screen, a quad-core Qualcomm processor, a 12MP rear camera, and an 8MP unit on the front. The smartphone could also come with 4GB of RAM and have a 3,450mAh battery.

Rear camera capacity could reach 12MP, with an 8MP unit on the front. Nexus Marlin is said to have a fingerprint sensor on the back, and internal storage could vary between 32GB and 128GB. The handset could come with Bluetooth 4.2 and have a USB Type-C port.

On the other hand, Nexus Sailfish will have a smaller display of just 5 inches and 1080p resolution with 440ppi pixel density. The smartphone will feature a battery capacity of 2,770mAh.

Google has released the final Android Nougat Developer Preview 5, which means that it won't be long until the new Android OS makes its global debut and the two new Nexus smartphones are officially announced.
