Taiwanese handset maker HTC is one of the first handset makers that provided Android 6.0 Marshmallow updates for some of its smartphones.

Motorola and LG released Marshmallow upgrades as well, but companies like Samsung, Lenovo, Huawei and Sony Mobile have yet to launch major software updates for their flagships.

HTC One M9 is already getting Marshmallow in many countries, at multiple carriers, whereas the One A9 comes with Android 6.0 operating system right out of the box.

But what about the mid-range smartphones that HTC launched in the last couple of months? Well, it looks like the handset maker plans to upgrade some of its mid-end smartphones to Marshmallow as well.

Aside from the One A9 that comes preloaded with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, HTC is likely to provide the update to Desire Eye another mid-range smartphone launched back in November 2014.

The information has been recently confirmed by HTC leakster @LlabTooFeR, who also said that the upgrade will include the HTC Sense 7.0 UI as well.

An exact release date hasn't been confirmed yet

Unfortunately, no timeframe for the release of Android 6.0 Marshmallow for HTC Desire Eye has been leaked yet, just that it will come “later this year.”

This could mean that HTC Desire Eye might receive the update in the last quarter of the year, or maybe in the next few months.

It's also worth mentioning that the Desire Eye will be upgraded directly to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, which includes all the new emoji released by Google, but also some security patches as well.

Speaking of which, we expect HTC to implement some security improvements into the update too, but the company did not confirm the release of monthly security patches for the Desire Eye yet.

The Desire Eye might not be the only mid-range smartphone that HTC plans to upgrade to Android 6.0 Marshmallow in the coming months, so stay tuned for more details on the matter.
