Amidst disastrous financial results this year, HTC has announced that four new affordable Android smartphones in the Desire family will be available in the US this month.

The HTC Desire 526 will be exclusively available in the United States at major carrier Verizon Wireless, while Desire 626 will sell at other operators too.

According to the Big Red, the Desire 526 will go on sale beginning August 13 for only $120 outright, or 24 monthly installments of $5.

On the other hand, HTC Desire 626 has been confirmed to arrive at Verizon “in the coming weeks,” and details about its price are yet to be unveiled.

The good news is that both smartphones will ship with Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system right out of the box and HTC's Sense UI 7 on top.

Since they belong to the Desire family, these smartphones only offer low- to mid-range specs. But let's start with the first one and see what the Desire 526 has to offer for its price.

Lollipop and 4G LTE support are a plus

HTC Desire 526 sports a 4.7-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports qHD (540 x 960 pixels) resolution. It also features an 8-megapixel camera on the back with autofocus, LED flash and video recording, as well as a secondary 2-megapixel camera on the front for selfies and video calls.

On the inside, the Desire 526 is equipped with a 1.1GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 processor, 1.5GB of RAM, and 8GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 64GB via microSD card slot.

Moving on to HTC Desire 626, the smartphone comes with a slightly larger 5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution.

It has the same 1.1GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 processor and the same amount of RAM (1.5GB). However, Desire 626 packs 16GB of storage, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 64GB).

On the back, HTC Desire 636 features an 8-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus, LED flash, and video recording, while on the front there's a secondary 2-megapixel selfie camera.

Last but not least, both smartphones are powered by 2,000 mAh batteries and offer 4G LTE support, among other connectivity options.
