The information has been validated by HTC UK

Although Microsoft has yet to release Windows 10 Mobile for Windows Phone 8.1 devices, there's one particular device that will not be getting the update when the Redmond-based company decided to launch it.

Sadly, most popular HTC smartphones powered by Windows Phone, the 8X will not receive the highly anticipated Windows 10 Mobile upgrade.

In fact, HTC 8X won't get any other update in the future, which isn't that surprising since the smartphone has already been discontinued.

The information has been recently confirmed by HTC UK, and is likely to apply to all HTC 8X devices worldwide.

When asked by an HTC 8X owner whether or not the smartphone will, at least, receive Windows 10 Mobile update when Microsoft releases it, the Taiwanese company replied that there are no updates planned for this smartphone, “There are no further updates planned for the HTC Windows phone 8X currently.”

Lack of resources or outdated hardware?

Optimists would probably suggest that HTC does not plan to upgrade the HTC 8X to Windows 10 Mobile, but perhaps the Taiwanese company would be inclined to do it if overwhelmed by requests from users.

It's unclear why the handset maker has decided not to upgrade the HTC 8X to Windows 10 Mobile, but it may have something to do with the outdated hardware inside the smartphone.

Another issue would be the lack of resources, or the company's unwillingness to invest time and money to provide an important software update for such an old device.

Either way, it appears that HTC 8X will never be upgraded to Windows 10 Mobile through official channels, but we're pretty sure that someone, somewhere, will be able to make it run Microsoft's latest mobile platform.

On that note, let's hope Microsoft will release Windows 10 Mobile for Windows Phone 8.1 devices sooner rather than later.
