HP’s Elite X3 Windows 10 Mobile device, often referred to as the superphone, will go on sale in August in a total of 46 markets around the world, including the United States (not at Verizon, though).

Pricing for the device will start at $699 in the United States for the standard package and $799 when purchased with a dock that makes it possible to take advantage of Continuum and use the phone as a fully featured PC on a bigger screen. Prices for each market will vary depending on taxes.

Technical specifications

The Windows 10 Mobile superphone will come with a 5.96-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2560x1440 pixels and Gorilla Glass 4, and will be powered by a Snapdragon 820 processor. It will integrate 4 GB of RAM and 64GB of storage space, with microSD card support allowing for expansion up to 2 TB.

The HP Elite X3 will tip the scales at 196 grams (0.43 lb) and will feature a 4,150 mAh battery with wireless charging and USB Type-C for quick charging and data transfers. NFC and GPS will also be offered. The rear camera will be a 16-megapixel unit with LED flash while the front-facing version will have 8 megapixels with iris support for Windows Hello (a fingerprint reader will be available too).

HP’s dock will come with additional ports, including an Ethernet adapters and USB, so the Elite X3 will become a device focused even more on productivity. The superphone is designed from the very beginning for enterprises, so it comes with 128-bit BitLocker and Enterprise Grade VPN, but also with support for HP services that are specifically offered to companies.

Other than that, the HP Elite X3 is a flagship device by all means, and it clearly outclasses the Lumia 950 XL, Microsoft’s very own high-end Windows 10 Mobile phone launched earlier this year. Redmond can win back the leading position in early 2017, when it’s expected to unveil the Surface Phone.
