The team of developers behind the HPLIP (short for HP Linux Imaging and Printing) project, announced a few moments ago the availability of the fifth maintenance build in the 3.16 stable series of the software.

For those of you who are not in the loop, HP Linux Imaging and Printing is an open-source initiative to bring the latest HP (Hewlett-Packard) printer drivers to GNU/Linux operating systems. The software has a pretty active development team working behind it, releasing maintenance builds at least once a month.

And today's release of HP Linux Imaging and Printing 3.16.5 is proof that the project is getting stronger with each day, offering you support for more HP printers than any other proprietary software. Newly supported HP printers in HPLIP 3.16.5 include HP OfficeJet 200 mobile printer series and HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 all-in-one printer.

Furthermore, the HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 all-in-one printer, HP OfficeJet Pro 8740 all-in-one printer, HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 all-in-one printer, HP OfficeJet Pro 8725 all-in-one printer, HP LaserJet Pro M501n, and HP LaserJet Pro M501dn printers are also supported by the HP Linux Imaging and Printing 3.16.5 release.

Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and Debian GNU/Linux 8.4 are now supported

It is a known fact that the HP Linux Imaging and Printing software offers support for all the modern GNU/Linux operating systems, and today's update lives up to its name, introducing support for the recently released Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) and Debian GNU/Linux 8.4 "Jessie" operating systems.

Lastly, HPLIP 3.16.5 introduces Qt 5 support. Therefore, if you own an HP printer, we recommend installing the HP Linux Imaging and Printing software today on your GNU/Linux distribution. You can download the HP Linux Imaging and Printing 3.16.5 binaries via our website.
