The developers behind the HP Linux Imaging and Printing project, an open-source initiative to bring the latest HP printer drivers to GNU/Linux distributions, released HPLIP 3.16.2.

HPLIP 3.16.2 is the second maintenance release in the stable HP Linux Imaging and Printing 3.16 series, bringing support for the recently debuted Debian GNU/Linux 8.3 and Linux Mint 17.3 operating systems, along with support for the HP ScanJet Pro 4500 fn1 network scanner and HP DeskJet Ultra Ink Advantage 2029 printer.

Additionally, the HP DeskJet Ink Advantage Ultra 2529 all-in-one printer is also supported in this release. Other significant changes include the removal of support for the "hp-setup"command for HP ScanJet series of printers to queue the configuration. Instead, you can use tools like hp-scan, XSane, SimpleScan, as well as ScanImage.

Bugfixes, lots of bugfixes

But the HP Linux Imaging and Printing 3.16.2 release is not all about new features and support for the latest GNU/Linux operating systems, as the developers also managed to fix a lot of the annoying bugs reported by users since the previous maintenance build of the project.

Among the most interesting fixes, we can mention hang issue of hp-plugin on "su," an infinite loop issue with hp-plugin, a "stuck on permission" problem with hp-plugin, support for upgrading from HPLIP 3.15.11, and an installation issue with hp-plugin that occurred after accepting the license.

Lastly, the HP Laserjet Pro MFP M127fs printer is now supported, the HPLIP installation no longer fails with non-English locale, an issue with /usr/lib/sane/libsane-hpaio.so.1 was resolved, and udev's 56-hpmud.rules file won't execute usb_id for all USB devices.
