It looks like the first true flagship smartphone coming this year from a company other than Microsoft will be released by HP.

Many Windows Phone fans probably remember the HP Falcon, a handset powered by Windows 10 Mobile that was spotted late last year at GFXBench.

Even though we were convinced at that time that the device was real, at least as a prototype, there was not enough information about its possible release.

In fact, sources familiar with HP's plans claimed that the company hadn't yet decided whether or not to release the Falcon on the market.

HP was probably worried that Windows Phone was such a niche market that its Falcon wouldn't sell that well, but it looks like the device will eventually hit shelves.

According to famous leakster @evleaks, the Falcon will be launched on the market under a different moniker: HP Elite x3.

The information doesn't come with any additional details on the phone's specs, but we already know what's inside the HP Falcon (or HP Elite x3) since it appeared a few months ago at GFXBench.

Powerful specs for one of the first Windows 10 Mobile flagships launched in 2016

First of all, the smartphone is said to boast a massive 5.8-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution.

Since this will sell as a flagship, it will come with a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, coupled with Adreno 530 graphics processing unit and 2GB of RAM.

The phablet is listed at GFXBench with a 20-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus, LED flash, and video recording, as well as a secondary 12-megapixel camera on the front.

HP Elite x3 will pack 64GB of internal memory, but there's no mention of microSD card slot for memory expansion at the moment.

No word on price and release date yet, but we won't be surprised if the phablet is unveiled later this month at MWC 2016.
