HP one of the first companies to launch Always Connected PCs

Just as expected, long-time Microsoft partner HP is one of the first companies to embrace the software giant’s new ideas, so today is announcing an Always Connected PC that can offer up to 20 hours of battery life.

Before you ask, no, that’s not the standby time, but active use autonomy, which means that the new HP device can last for nearly a full day per charge no matter what you do.

It’s all possible thanks to Windows 10 on ARM, a new project that Microsoft developed with Qualcomm and which brings the full version of Windows 10, including Win32 software, on ARM processors that were previously exclusively addressed to smartphones.

The HP Envy x2 is one of the first to adopt this new technology, and it is powered by the Snapdragon 835 chipset that’s already available on some high-end phones like the Samsung Galaxy S8. Thanks to this chip, the PC also features the Snapdragon X16 LTE modem, so it offers gigabit LTE speeds to achieve the “always connected” standard that Microsoft seems to be so proud of.

Hardware specifications

In terms of hardware specifications, the HP Envy x2 is a 2-in-1 device that can be used as both a laptop and as a tablet, and it features a 12-inch full HD display with support for pens and Windows Ink.

HP created it to be super portable, so it’s just 6.9mm thin and tips the scales at 1.54 pounds (698 grams). The top configuration will feature 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, but thanks to the wide array of connectivity ports, including USB 3.0 and microSD card support, you should be able to expand storage easily.

The Envy x2 will run Windows 10 S, but Microsoft allows users to upgrade to the full version of Windows 10 Pro should they want to remove the Windows Store app limitation.

HP hasn’t yet revealed pricing and availability specifics, but the company expects shipments to begin in the spring, so more information should surface soon.
