HP Elite X3 is one of the pleasant surprises for this year's Mobile World Congress trade fair. Rumored several weeks ago, the flagship smartphone powered by Windows 10 Mobile has been officially unveiled today.

Unfortunately, HP can't tell us when the Elite X3 will be available for purchase and for how much, but the company states the phablet should begin shipping this summer. We expect more details on the matter in the coming weeks.

The Elite X3 is now showcased at MWC 2016, but if you plan to visit HP's booth to see the device, then you should know that this is a prototype unit, which lacks fingerprint scanner.

For those unfamiliar with Elite X3, here is the full list of specs confirmed by HP today. First of all, this is a high-end handset powered by Microsoft's Windows 10 Mobile. It's the first true flagship Windows Phone handset launched this year.

Hardware-wise, HP announced the Elite X3 comes equipped with a 2.15GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, paired with an Adreno 530 graphics processing unit and 4GB of RAM.

Also, the phablet packs no less than 64GB of storage, which can be expanded up to 2TB via microSD card slot. In fact, the smartphone offers hybrid dual-SIM support, so you can either use the second slot to put in a nano SIM or an SD memory card.

Non-removable battery, but guaranteed Continuum for Phone support

The Elite X3 has been designed to meet IP67 rating for dust and water resistance. It also comes with two stereo speakers (one with earpiece), 3 omnidirectional mics with HP noise cancellation software, 1 external mic (from headset jack) and Audio by B&O Play technology.

Furthermore, HP's flagship boasts a massive 5.96-inch AMOLED display that supports Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution and features Corning Gorilla Glass 4, as well as anti-reflective coating.

At the back, the Elite X3 includes a 16-megapixel camera while in the front there's a secondary 8-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls.

HP also confirmed that the phablet would come with fingerprint reader and iris recognition. The 4,150 mAh battery inside the HP Elite X3 is non-removable.

Other highlights of the Windows 10 smartphone include USB Type-C port, Bluetooth 4.0, 3.5mm audio jack, and GPS with AGPS support.
