Is extreme Xbox One controller customization worth $150?

After showing off the very expensive Xbox One Elite controller at E3, Microsoft decided to unveil how all the bits, buttons and modules work on the new exclusivist controller.

A new video from Microsoft has emerged after the Gamescom event, shedding some light on how the new controller actually works, and yes, how you can actually modify it, slightly.

Elite's customization can, however, go a bit deeper than just swapping thumbsticks of different lengths. Besides the added back silver pedals on your controller, you can adjust trigger dead zone, download custom profiles for button binding focus for certain games, tweak the haptic feedback intensity on a motor-by-motor basis, and last but not least, you can also remap button functions at an ungodly level.

The button remapping feature will come with an app that will be installed on your console once you buy the new controller, allowing you to swap button functions on the fly for your desired play style, set button sensitivities from the default 100% trigger pull to less, so that it becomes much more responsive.

Together with the new controller, Microsoft wants to sell its Chatpad that will connect at the bottom of the controller and will be backlit for users to see what they're typing in the dark.

Additional buttons will be attached to the chatpad for volume control, mute button and many other features. The new chatpad also features two additional programmable buttons for whatever the user would like to do, like taking screenshots or recording some video footage.

The new controller will be available to potential buyers in mid-2016 for about $150 (€137).

The Xbox One Elite controller presentation in the video below begins at the 30 minute mark.
