Huawei unveiled the Honor 8 in China last month, and it seems that it was time the smartphone was brought to the US. The official unveiling event has highlighted the handset's specs, and the company has announced that pre-orders start today.

Huawei's Honor 8 is marketed as an affordable smartphone with powerful specs, being quite similar to Huawei's P9 in this regard. Honor 8 sports a 5.2-inch 1080p IPS display with 423ppi and packs an octa-core Kirin 950 processor. It has 4GB of RAM, and it's available in two variants when it comes to internal storage. One model has 32GB, while the second provides 64GB, and memory can be expanded to 128GB for both using a microSD card.

Battery capacity is set to reach 3,000mAh with fast charging, and the phone has multiple connectivity options, including USB Type-C, LTE (T-Mo VoLTE), Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac), NFC, IR, OTG, Bluetooth 4.2. It runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box and comes with EMUI 4.1 on top.

Honor 8 comes with a 12MP dual-camera setup on the back

Things get interesting when it comes to the camera department. Honor 8 has a 12 MP dual-camera setup on the back with laser AF, f/2.2 aperture, and the capacity to record 1080p video. The front camera can also record 1080p videos but has f/2.4 aperture and reaches only 8MP.

Aside from specs, the device has a glass build, and the fingerprint sensor can unlock the phone in about 0.4 seconds. Honor 8 comes with an interesting feature, Knuckle Sense, which would allow users to take screenshots, record video and draw gestures using just their knuckles. The fingerprint sensor can be used for opening apps, snapping images, managing the notification panel, answering calls, and much more.

The smartphone is available in Midnight Black, Sapphire Blue, and Pearl White color variants, while prices are set at $399.99 for the 32GB variant and $449.99 for the 64GB model. Pre-orders start today, August 17, and the phone is available at Amazon, Best Buy, B&H, Newegg and on Honor's official website.

Customers get a $50 gift card from Amazon, Best Buy, B&H or Newegg, while the last one also offers a free clear case and JBL earbuds. For purchases on the company's website, Honor offers a $50 rebate. Pre-orders end on September 3.
