The first wave of phones is coming in early 2017

As many of you probably know, 2017 will be an exciting year for Nokia fans. The Finnish company announced its comeback in the smartphone industry, which is supposed to happen early next year.

However, the company that will launch the new Nokia smartphones and feature phones is not Nokia, but another Finnish company called HMD Global. This is a relatively new company that managed to secure the right to use the Nokia brand for its products for the next 10 years.

So, moving forward, HMD Global will be in charge of releasing smartphones, tablets and feature phones under the Nokia brand.

Moreover, according to the Finnish company, thanks to a strategic partnership with FIH Mobile Limited and Google, Nokia-branded mobile phones and tablets will benefit from a high-quality manufacturing process.

FIH, a global consumer-electronics manufacturing and technology powerhouse is the company that will manufacture the Nokia-branded devices, guaranteeing innovation at scale, as well as world-class R&D capability.

HMD Global notes that it is now developing an exciting new consumer centric product range, which will focus on “innovation, quality and experience.”

Even though it's been only six months since HMD signed the strategic licensing agreement with Nokia, the former already has a strong presence in the Americas, Europe, Asia, Middle East, India, and China.

This will certainly contribute to the company's start next year when the first Nokia phones are supposed to hit all these markets.

HMD Global is led by experienced people in the smartphone business, such as the CEO Arto Nummela, who joined Nokia in 1998 and worked for Microsoft two decades later, and President Florian Seiche, who previously worked at Nokia, Siemens, Orange and HTC.

Since both Nokia and HMD Global confirmed their presence at Mobile World Congress in late February, we expect the first Android smartphones in a long while under the Nokia brand to be unveiled at the trade fair.
