14 DAY TRIAL // It’s hard to be a Windows Phone user these days, especially if all your friends are playing Pokemon Go on their Android handsets or iPhones, and it’s all because Niantic doesn’t think it’s worth bringing the game on Microsoft’s mobile platform.
And yet, the petition that calls for the company to release Pokemon Go for Windows Phone is growing in popularity at an impressive rate and now has nearly 50,000 signatures. And all of this in less than one week.
Although the petition had been launched 10 months ago, it went viral only after Niantic released Pokemon Go for Android and iOS devices a couple of weeks back, as Windows Phone users obviously felt left behind and decided to do something about it.
The first time we wrote about this petition was on July 7, so 6 days ago, when it had only 4,000 signatures. A few hours later, however, the Pokemon Go petition had already exceeded 10,000 signatures and is now very close to reaching another milestone: 50,000 users who want to see Pokemon Go on Windows Phone.
More supporters are welcome
This is pretty much living proof for Niantic that Windows Phone users do want a version of Pokemon Go, and although there are critics claiming that this wouldn’t make sense, the nearly 50,000 supporters of this petition think otherwise. And the top comment on the petition page sums up everything:
“I've been playing Pokemon for over a decade now, almost 2. I've owned every Nintendo system from SNES to Wii U. I've imagined a Pokemon experience like this for years now, and now to only be held back by which phone OS I chose, hurts.”
“To have the true experience of a quest to be a Pokemon Master it is only right that trainers from all parts of the world, regardless of phone OS, be able to train, trade, and battle and enjoy the what is Pokemon, as I have through my Nintendo consoles. Please Nintendo, or Microsoft, whomever is able to do this, make it so, and I will personally be thankful for your efforts, as will the millions of WP users.”
Right now, Niantic hasn’t dropped any hint that Pokemon Go will ever launch on Windows Phone, so let’s keep this petition rolling because the more signatures, the bigger the chances for decision makers at the company to see that such a version is really worth the effort.
