Here's What to Expect from Apple's WWDC 2018 and How to Watch the Live Keynote

Today, June 4, 2018, Apple is kicking off the WWDC 2018 developer conference, where the Cupertino, California based company is expected to unveil the future of its operating systems.

This year's WWDC developer conference will be held in San Jose, California, the United States, at the McEnery Convention Center. As usual, the event will kick off with a keynote, which Apple will live stream worldwide on June 4, 2018. After that, the conference will continue with developer sessions until Friday, June 8.

During the keynote, we expect Apple to unveil all the new features coming to the next major versions of its operating systems, namely iOS 12, macOS 10.14, tvOS 12, and watchOS 5. Of course, we also expect Apple to refresh some hardware, such as its MacBook Pro series with a 2018 edition.

There weren't many rumors about the upcoming iOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS versions until now, except for a few leaked screenshots of macOS 10.14, which appears to feature a new dark appearance and new apps. Also, iOS 12 was rumored to introduce new Parental Control features to fight iPhone addiction amongst youth, and new NFC functionality.

Unfortunately, there won't be any major hardware announcements at WWDC 2018 as many would have expected. However, there might be some small announcements about the long-anticipated AirPower wireless charging mat developed by Apple for iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, and Apple Watch devices, as well as the 2nd generation AirPods earbuds and a cheaper smart speaker.

While the new iOS 12, macOS 10.14, tvOS 12, and watchOS 5 versions will be available as free upgrades for all users this fall, the first developer beta version are expected to be released to application developers after the keynote presentation on June 4, and the first public beta release should be available later this month.

Here's how to watch the WWDC 2018 live keynote

If you plan on watching the live WWDC 2018 keynote, which starts at 10 a.m. PT (5 p.m GMT) and where Apple will unveil all the new features coming to its iOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS operating systems, and much more, you should have an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch device running Safari web browser on iOS 10 or later.

Additionally, the live keynote can be streamed on a Mac computer running macOS Sierra 10.12 or later with the Safari web browser, as well as on an Apple TV 2nd generation or later device via AirPlay with the latest Apple TV software or tvOS. Streaming is also possible on Windows 10 PCs with Microsoft Edge, Firefox, or Chrome.

This year, Apple made it possible for users of other platforms, such as Linux, to watch its live events using recent versions of the Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox web browsers if they have AAC, H.264, and MSE support enabled by default.
