BlackBerry is rumored to jump on board with Android

Recently, we have heard rumors according to which BlackBerry might be finally dabbing into Android territory. Such whispers prophesizing the advent of a so-called DroidBerry have been going around for quite some time but failed to materialize in any way until now.

Still, all hope is not lost, as a few weeks ago we heard that BlackBerry might be prepping a low-end Android handset nicknamed Prague, headed for release in August. Another report claimed a slider product dubbed Venice was also in the pipeline.

The question at this point is not whether BlackBerry can produce an Android handset, of course it can, but whether it can produce something that will draw customers’ attention, given that the droid ecosystem is highly competitive.

We speculated that BlackBerry might want to bring its iconic physical keyboard to the land of Android to make it truly special, but that’s just a personal preference.

What do you think of this DroidBerry?

Deviant Art member adrianbravom has come up with a concept of a Blackberry-made Android smartphone which focuses on a touchscreen display, no QWERTY involved.

The format seems actually quite familiar, making us think of the BlackBerry Z10. As you can see for yourself in the images included in the gallery below, some BlackBerry OS elements were still retained, like the BBM app, multi-tasking with live thumbnails, and the overall look of the notification area.

The virtual Android-bound buttons are visible in the images, but the overall vibe of the icons is a bit different than stock Lollipop.

The designer doesn’t give us any hints regarding the specs the phone might embed, but it doesn’t really look like a low-end affair to our eyes, but rather a more high-end device.

The slider BlackBerry Venice also boasts an all touch display, but it also has a sliding keyboard hiding behind the display. So we could borrow the specs of Venice and apply them onto this concept.

The phone might bundle a 5.4-inch QHD display (with 2,560 x 1,440 pixel resolution), a Snapdragon 808 chipset under the hood fitted with 3GB of RAM, plus a 18MP snapper on the back.

How would a BlackBerry Android phone with such specs sound to you?
