8K screen owners, Lattice has got you covered

8K screens are the unicorns of today's display industry. They are incredibly rare and also incredibly impressive. Destined to be the resolution of the future before stereoscopic resolutions hit TV screens, 8K resolution controllers are even rarer. The new SiI9630 transmitter is one of them while offering video support at 60fps.

The new SiI9398 receiver and SiI9630 transmitter are meant to connect to your TV and whatever 8K broadcasting source you have, and via multi-lane superMHL or HDMI 2.0 (super Mobile High Definition Link) technology will offer its clients 8K video support with a broadband of 18Gbps.

Apparently, both chips, the transmitter and receiver offer key features like High Dynamic Range (HDR) and a bigger color gamut meant to deliver true-to-life picture quality from set-top boxes (STBs), consoles, media players to TVs and monitors via one single cable.

The new SiI9630 is a dual mode video transmitter (HDMI and superMHL) that must work only with the SiI9398 receiver in order to enjoy the full speed offered by the new generation HDMI 2.0 or the superMHL. The superMHL connectivity is also compatible with older transmitters from Lattice.

The new addition is the HDMI 2.0 connectivity which has a special slot dedicated to the SiI9398 so it can receive the new 18Gps bandwidth

Your entertainment media boxes can now connect safely to your 8K monsters

Marshall Goldberg, senior product marketing manager at Lattice Semiconductor, said “Our customers demand products that deliver the highest resolution and dynamic range along with the widest color gamut to create next-generation home theater systems that go beyond 4K.” Also, he's not wrong when he says that “8K solutions will deliver an amazing audio visual experience to consumers.”

The new devices will also provide Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, 3D audio formats, and up to 40W power delivery.

At the moment, not many people really know what 8K screens look like, and while Sharp starts to sell its first 8K screens at the end of the month, studies show that 8K screens popularity will hit peak barely in 2019, so there's a long way to go until then. Lattice, however, seems to be future proof, and for those early 8K Sharp owners it already sells transmitters and receivers for these new monster displays.
