User imagines a rather simple but super-useful emoji feature

No matter if we like them or not, emoji are part of our modern lives, and pretty much everyone uses them these days in messages, mails, tweets, or even articles.

And because emoji are becoming so popular, Microsoft is paying particular attention to this feature, so Windows 10 users can insert their own smiley faces in their text even when working on a PC.

Unfortunately, the existing Windows 10 implementation is rather difficult to use, as it implies launching the touch keyboard whose icon stays in the system tray to access the emoji button. This takes more than just a couple of seconds, and when combined with the time needed to find the perfect emoticon, it’s all quite annoying.

Two easy ways to make using emoji more convenient

This is why this concept posted on reddit by user FocalSauce comes in so handy. As you can see for yourselves in the photo gallery below, the concept proposes a dedicated interface just for emoji, with its own icon in the system tray. Clicking this icon launches the windows that you can see in the concept, so you can easily click or tap any smiley face to insert it into a conversation.

The concept imagines two different versions of the emoji keyboard, one with a floating window and another one with a notification area flyout, both of which can launch by simply clicking the emoji icon in the system tray.

At first glance, it’s all quite easy to use and Microsoft can obviously make it even better using its own ideas and refinements, but with the Creators Update feature-complete, it’s hard to believe that such a change could see daylight before the next OS update goes live for everyone.

On the other hand, it’s better late than never because this kind of minor improvements can contribute to a generally improved experience with Windows 10, so make sure you send your feedback to the company if you like this idea.
