Fedora 27 has arrived, and if you're planning to upgrade from Fedora 26, which will be maintained until one month after the release of Fedora 28, the official upgrade instructions are now available.

Fedora Project's Ryan Lerch is informing users of the Fedora 26 Linux operating system that the upgrade path is now open and the easiest way to upgrade to Fedora 27 is to use the GNOME Software graphical package manager, if you're using Fedora Workstation.

Every time a new Fedora release is out, users receive notifications that a new version is available, and this time is no different. If you're running Fedora 26 you might see a notification somewhere in the notification applet in the panel about the release of Fedora 27.

If you didn't receive any notification or you missed it, you can still upgrade by opening GNOME Software and accessing the Updates tab. Wait a few moments for the list of updates to refresh or click the Refresh button, and you should see the new Fedora release there.

Simply click on the "Download" button to upgrade your Fedora 26 Linux operating system to Fedora 27, which will take a while depending on your Internet connection and the specifications of your computer. Anyway, you'll have to reboot to upgrade.

Upgrading from the command-line

Upgrading from the command-line is recommended only to those who can't use the first method or don't like to mess with the terminal. It's also the recommended method for servers or if you don't use the GNOME desktop environment.

Before attempting a CLI (command-line interface) upgrade, make sure you have all the updates installed, so run the first command listed below. Once all updates have been installed, reboot the system and run the second command to install the upgrade plugin for the DNF package manager.

With the DNF plugin installed, proceed to upgrade to Fedora 27 by running the third command, and once all the packages have been successfully downloaded, you can finally run the last command to reboot and upgrade your Fedora 26 Linux PC to Fedora 27. Have fun!

sudo dnf upgrade --refresh
sudo dnf install dnf-plugin-system-upgrade
sudo dnf system-upgrade download --releasever=27
