The company seems to be focusing on new cards

With the developers at Blizzard teasing a big announcement for Hearthstone that's coming on July 22 some fans of the title are exploring the possibility that the company is planning to expand the card game in a new way, rather than delivering yet another set of new cards.

One possibility that they can scratch of their list is the addition of any new class for the title, which is off the table for the foreseeable future.

Ben Brode, the senior game designer at Blizzard, clearly stated the team's position on Twitter although many fans will take the "at this time" as a sign that priorities can shift in the coming months and years.

A new class would give the team a chance to introduce some entirely new ideas to Hearthstone and might actually bring back a number of players who might have abandoned the experience as it became too familiar.

The Twitter message also suggests that the company is more focused on new cards, which are easier to design than an entirely new class and appeal to a wider set of potential buyers,

The official announcement from Blizzard is coming on July 22.

Fans are speculating that pirates might be the theme of the expansion, but the tone of the teaser suggests that chivalry might be the core concept for the expansion.

Blizzard will continue to offer more alternate heroes for each class

Magni Bronzebeard is the first addition, a cosmetic tweak for the warrior that comes with some extra content and sells for 10 dollars or Euro.

No gameplay changes are associated with the new heroes and Blizzard has said that it plans to deliver them for all the classes on the card game, expanding its game as service business model.

The problem is that if an alternate hero costs this much the addition of an actual class will probably move to the 20 dollars or Euro price point, which might anger the community.

Blizzard probably believes that it is a better idea to rely on an already tested model and deliver another card expansion for Hearthstone while they explore the best way to expand the title in the future.
